Before Covid hit—back in the Pleistocene era—huge excitement was building over the impending debut of the Virgin Group’s first cruise ship, the Scarlet Lady, which promised to be a ship like no other.
Onboard features include a tattoo parlor, “experimental” eateries, daily yoga on the sundeck, and other touches meant to convey that this is truly a contemporary vessel and brand.
But then came the pandemic, docking the cruise industry and sinking consumer confidence.
The Scarlet Lady still hasn’t had its official inaugural sailing, which is currently scheduled for May 9. A second Virgin ship, the Valiant Lady, is expected to debut in November. Â
But Virgin Voyages is already giving away 1,000 free cruises in its Shipload of Love promotion launched on Valentine’s Day.Â
The free voyages will be given to those who “lead with love and make every day a little bit better,” as Virgin puts it.
To nominate someone who qualifies, all you have to do is create a 60-second video extolling the deserving person’s good works and upload the clip to the Virgin Voyages website.Â
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, March 16, at 8pm EST.Â
Entries will be judged on creativity, the merits of the nominee, and the overall quality of the video. Winners will be notified by April 16.Â
Nominees must be at least 21 years old and a resident of the United States (excepting U.S. territories), Canada, or the U.K. Â
No, you cannot nominate yourself.Â

By the end of the year, Virgin intends to give away a total of 2,021 cruises, according to a news release.
