Southwest's $49 flights are the perfect excuse to plan your winter escape

Southwest Airlines is on an absolute mission to get more people flying this fall and winter. The airline has hosted sale after sale in recent weeks, and it appears they aren’t done quite yet.

Southwest is hosting yet another winter fare sale with tickets going for as low as $49 one-way. But, like all of the airline’s sales, if you want in, you better act fast. This particular sale kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 1 and will end on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Take a quick peek at Southwest’s sale website and you'll see there are a plethora of options including $49 one-way tickets from Baltimore to Providence, Phoenix to Las Vegas, Nashville to Atlanta, Chicago to Detroit, and Las Vegas to San Diego. For $79 one-way, you could also fly from Atlanta to Dallas and New York City's LaGuardia to Baltimore. For just $99 travelers can also go from New Orleans to Baltimore, and for $129 from Chicago to Phoenix and Los Angeles to St. Louis.

Of course, like most airfare sales, this one comes with plenty of fine print. The sale has blackout dates over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Exact blackout dates are Nov. 22-Dec. 3 and Dec. 19-Jan. 5.

You’ll also have to be flexible about your travel dates as there are few Friday and Sunday deals available. And Southwest’s new mainland to Hawaii routes are largely off the table as well, however, there are a few deals from California to Honolulu floating around for $139 one-way.

But hey, if you’ve got a little bit of a flexible schedule, or are looking to go on a quick fall or winter weekend getaway, this sale may help you save some cash along the way.
