A severe winter storm is set to hit the East Coast, pummeling the region from Georgia to Maine.
Forecasters have dubbed the storm a “bomb cyclone,” as falling low pressure will create conditions similar to a hurricane. The storm comes as much as the U.S. has been experiencing an extreme cold snap, pushing temperatures 20-30 degrees below average.
From Florida to South Carolina, residents can expect a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow, according to the National Weather Service. The northeast will experience bitter cold, along with a probability of at least 4 inches of snow in much of New England.
Airlines across 50 airports have already begun to issue waivers ahead of the storm. With weather-related cancelations and delays, airlines are usually not required to pay for accommodation or meals, making it a good idea to rebook sooner rather than later.
